Order, Family and Description

This mass of yellow egg-laden mayflies are attracted to lights in considerable numbers during their nuptial flights. Mayflies spend most of their lives as aquatic naiads in rivers and streams. They are a numerous and essential component of aquatic ecosystems, providing food for fish. Anglers take advantage of this knowledge and fashion fishing flies in their likeness. The adult emerges with the sole purpose of mating and laying eggs for the next generation.
