Order, Family and Description

This stunning Brazilian Heliconid butterfly presents its elongated wings with bright orange an jet black coloration as it drinks from mineral rich puddles. The more subdued underside of this Eueides butterfly clearly displays four prominent legs and a considerably reduced front pair. This species can be found as far north as Mexico where it's vibrancy is reduced. Similar in appearance to the Gulf Fritillary, this butterfly feeds on the flowers of Passion Vines.
